Asia Peaks is built around Ilgiz, a guide from Kochkor — the town at the foot of the road to Song-Kul. He runs a guesthouse there, has driven and guided travellers for more than 15 years, and knows the yurt-camp families and drivers our trips depend on.

Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a visa for Kyrgyzstan?
Citizens of the EU, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries can visit Kyrgyzstan without a visa. Since 31 December 2025 a visa-free stay is limited to 30 days within any 60-day period. You just need a passport valid for the length of your stay. We'll confirm the current rules for your nationality in your booking confirmation.
Is Kyrgyzstan safe for tourists?
Yes — Kyrgyzstan is one of the most welcoming countries in Central Asia, and tourists are treated as honoured guests. The real risk is the mountains themselves: remote terrain with no state mountain-rescue service. We ask every traveller to carry medical and evacuation insurance, we tell you exactly what cover you need for your trip, and we discuss the communication plan for each route with you before departure.
How do I pay?
We agree the payment terms in writing with you before anything is charged, and we confirm them in the same email as your itinerary. Card payment directly on this site is something we are still building — for now we tell you the options honestly when you write. Bring some Kyrgyz som for souvenirs, snacks and tips: cards work in Bishkek and Karakol, almost never in the mountains.
Will I have phone signal and internet?
In Bishkek, Karakol and along main roads — yes, and a local SIM with data costs a few dollars. At Song-Kul, Kel-Suu and on treks there is little to no signal, so plan to be offline for a day or two. We agree an emergency communication plan with you for each route before you leave Bishkek.
When is the best time to visit?
Mid-June to mid-September is prime season for lakes and treks — yurt camps are open and passes are clear. May and October are beautiful, quieter shoulder months for lower-altitude trips. December to March is freeride season in Jyrgalan. Day trips from Bishkek run year-round.
